Choosing the Right Type of Drywall For Your Repair or Install

Are you a seasoned DIY’er and like tackling home projects on your own? Now you’ve taken the next step and have decided to handle your bathroom remodel yourself. You’re in a bit of a mess and things have gotten out of hand. It’s either time to call an Orlando drywall repair expert or educate yourself on the types of drywall that are best suited for high moisture areas. There are at least four types to choose from when remodeling your bathroom.

  • Regular sheetrock can be used on walls and ceilings that don’t come in direct contact with water, especially in a large bathroom with lots of room and ventilation. However, if your bathroom is small and/or not well ventilated, we recommend using a more moisture resistant product like green board for your walls and ceilings. It’s certainly worth the extra small cost and can certainly save you money in the long run.

  • Green board is a great all-around product to use in a medium moisture environment. Spend the extra money and rest assured that you’ve gone the extra mile to ensure your bathroom is protected from future mold and mildew issues. Green board is also great for garages and sheds. The cost is minimal compared to the cost to replace if moisture related problems were to surface.

  • Durock should be used for the shower walls and any surface that is in direct contact with water. This product is made out of cement and is much more cumbersome to cut and work with. Only a seasoned DIY’er should attempt working with this type of board. If this material intimidates you in any way, we strongly recommend utilizing the services of a Drywall Repair Expert. The time and material you save will easily add up to money in your pocket and a more quality job.

  • Fiberglass drywall should be used in medium to high moisture areas with low to poor ventilation. Save yourself the itch and hire a drywall repair pro. This stuff can be harmful to the lungs when cut and at the very least leave you itching like crazy for days. It’s designed to take a moisture beating and will resist and mold or mildew growth. It certainly is great for combating the elements, but again, please hire a professional if this is the type of drywall you require.

If you’r still a little hesitant about tackling a project of this size or if you’ve budgeted accordingly, give our team of drywall professionals a call at 407-753-5456 and we’ll be glad to handle it from here.
